Samandal Comics

Design and layout for the new issue of Samandal Comics, a Beirut–based comic book magazine.

The magazine is published in the three main languages spoken in Lebanon — Arabic, English and French. Samandal 3000 was therefore created in three editions, recognizable by a specific duotone.

About

Studio Safar

Samandal is a collective founded by artists such as Léna Merhej, Omar Khouri, Hatem Imam, Tarek Nabaa, and Fadi Baqi. In September 2007, they launched Samandal, a quarterly magazine aimed primarily at encouraging artists to create comic books. The magazine is participatory, inviting contributions from artists of all nationalities and reflecting the Lebanese cultural melting pot: the three languages spoken in Lebanon—Arabic, French, and English—are featured side by side, and the magazine showcases a diversity of styles and artists.
